A Few Tips for Choosing the Best Fencing Material for Your Property

When erecting a new fence on your property, you have a wide variety of materials from which to choose, which means you're sure to find something to fit your budget and your needs but which also means you might get a little overwhelmed when shopping. Note a few quick tips for choosing the best fencing material for your property.

1. Eco-friendly options

Bamboo is very eco-friendly, as it's very sustainable; bamboo plants grow very quickly so they're easy to replace after harvesting. Rolled bamboo fencing, meaning slats that are next to one another and which you unroll to install, can offer you more privacy than many other types of open grid fence designs.

Wood fencing is eco-friendly if it's made from recycled or reclaimed wood, but note that wood like oak or cedar needs consistent resealing and repainting. Recycled metal is also good for an eco-friendly choice, but if you want to change the color, you would usually need a professional to add powder coating and make other such minor repairs.

2. Budget-friendly options

A chain link fence is very budget-friendly, especially one with wide links as this uses less metal overall. They're not very private, so you might consider if you would need to add shrubbery or other landscaping, and consider this cost when considering your budget. A PVC fence is also very budget-friendly, and PVC can be shaped and molded to look like painted wood, although the material is not necessarily as sturdy as wood. If you have a pet who likes to dig around the fence, it may very well damage the PVC with their claws.

3. Security

If you're looking to add maximum security to your yard, a solid wood fence gives you privacy and doesn't offer a toehold for those looking to scale the fence. A wrought iron fence can mean less privacy but also doesn't offer a toehold, and pointed finials at the top can be very difficult to scale.

4. Low maintenance

If you want a fence you can install and then virtually forget about, vinyl is one of the best options. It doesn't chip or rot and doesn't need repainting. Vinyl can be stamped and pressed to look like painted wood. It can be the most expensive choice to install but having a maintenance free fence can mean less cost for the fence over the life of your home.
